About Us

Welcome to the Community Children's Center        of Hamden!

We are excited about our programs for young children, located here in the Alice Peck School at the corner of Shepard Avenue and Hillfield Road. We're focusing a wealth of energy and enthusiasm on providing area children with a safe, fun, and nurturing environment. It it with great pleasure that we watch our classrooms fill with a rainbow of busy hands and happy faces!

Suzanne Miller
Administrative Director

A 1995 graduate of the Yale Law School, Suzanne has focused her talents on non-profit management and child welfare. As a former Connecticut Assistant Attorney General, she acted as an advocate for children in the New Haven area. She has also served as Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven, and was Project Director during the turnaround phase of the Elm Haven/Monterey Place urban renewal project in New Haven's Dixwell neighborhood. She and her daughter Nicole opened the Carrot Patch Early Learning Center in 2005 and the Cheshire Nursery School in 2006. The Community Children's Center joins this line-up of successful programs for young children.

Deanna Lombardi
Program Director

Deanna brings many years of experience working with young children and their families. She has taught and developed curriculum for every age group served by the Center, and holds the national Child Development credential. Deanna has also worked with an extensive range of special needs children through the state's Birth to Three program, where she provided direct services and referrals.

Jan Romo
Education Consultant
One of the keys enabling us to provide the best possible learning environments for young children has been the wisdom and guidance of Janice Romo. Jan brings over 35 years experience in education, from teaching kindergarten, developing curriculum standards and managing the early childhood program for the City of New Haven, through teaching early childhood teachers at Southern Connecticut State University, and every imaginable role in between. Jan is currently a Co-President of the New Haven area chapter of NAEYC, and has served as its past Program Chair where she developed the continuing education seminars for early childhood teachers in the region. She has long been a tremendous asset as Educational Consultant and Staff Developer at The Carrot Patch, and now meets regularly with teachers at the Community Children's Center. Jan is also available to meet and share her expertise with parents and administrators as needed.
